Straight from the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival runway to you - the BEST new winter hair and makeup tips from world class makeup artists and stylists...
L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival can pull some big hair and makeup talent. Rae Morris was the head of makeup once again this year, and Mark Thompson creative directed star stylists Caterina Di Base and expat Kiwi Brad Ngata (yes Ngata - his grandad’s picture is on our $50 note!)
Talent like that means some seriously great runway hair and makeup, and some instant, easy new season updates for you!
Beautiful, beautiful blow-wave: you want to look like you get your hair professionally blowwaved at the salon each week. Brad says you should think about preparing your hair with as much love and about as many products as you do your face! So shampoo, condition, styling product, great tools, and finishing product. The great tool in this instance would be a MEDIUM size round brush, “medium” being a little less in diameter than the top of a can of Elnett hair spray!)
Glamorous, matte skin: if you want an instant new season update, mattify your skin. The look is VELVETY as opposed to the old dewy. In particular, mattify the t-zone to make your highlights stand out. While you are at, it remember to create a brushed, shaped brow (you may well gently fill and extend with a little pencil or powder). Forget applying blush on the apples of your cheeks; it’s back to under the cheekbone for dramatic definition.
A girl's best friend: if you can’t wear diamonds on your body, wear shimmer on your eyes! To create a new “soft Cleopatra” look, use light-infused shades to create a dramatic feline contour. Dare to take your shadow all the way to the brow. Define it with lashings of mascara on the top lashes, keep the lips nude.
Arch angel: give yourself an instant face lift by lifting your brows (use comb, pencil or powder and fix with a little hair product). Make your lips new season by bringing back points.
Back to the future: note the ‘80s braiding on the hair! Caternina added a cheeky little quiff in the front to modernise it. She’s adamant that for girls that can already braid their hair this look is achievable at home – you just braid from the nape up.
